According to Eagle Springs Principal, Dr. Andrea McGee, ESE opened in 1999 and it is one of the largest elementary schools in Houston County. Enrollment has fluctuated from 779 to 800 students over the past 2 years. The demographic make-up of the school is approximately 53% Caucasian, 28% African American, 8% Hispanic, 6% two or more races, and 5% Asian. The student population is 53% male and 47% female. The facility at Eagle Springs has 45 interior classrooms with three being used as labs. Six additional portable buildings have been added to accommodate the growing student population. Currently these are being used as office and storage space. In addition to classrooms, the facilities also include a kitchen, cafeteria, gym, art, and music rooms. Eagle Springs Elementary has a dedicated staff that strives to meet the needs of our students. The educational levels of our staff include 37% with a specialist degree, 37% with a master’s degree, 25% with a bachelor’s degree and 1% with a doctorate degree.
Eagle Springs Elementary offers students a variety of opportunities to succeed academically and in other areas. An hour a week is devoted to STEM activities within the classrooms, and music classes once a week and physical education classes three times a week. Each student attends art in addition to the schedule in the STEM labs. There are several after school opportunities offered at ESES including art squad, student council, jump rope team, reader’s theater club, dance team, junior master gardeners club, a Lego League, Math 24 club, a STEM club, and our after school program. Each classroom in our school is equipped with a SMARTboard and projector and classroom computers.
We have two STEM labs, a Logic and Learning Lab, a Fast Forward Lab, and the school has wireless access.
We have a valuable core of parents and grandparents who volunteer at Eagle Springs on a daily basis. We have an active PTO, Parent Action Team, and School Council that provide input and suggestions on how we can continue to strive to meet the needs of our students. Our school has a parent involvement coordinator that helps train volunteers and seeks opportunities for parents and grandparents to be involved in our school. We plan several parent involvement activities throughout the school year such as math night, science night, family literacy night, creativity night, STEM nights, and parent reading days.
